Consultation report - Healing of Memories (Dublin, Oct. 2007)
"Healing of Memories. Reconciling Communities" (30 Sept. - 4 Nov. 2007), held at the Dominican Retreat Centre in Dublin (Ireland), in collaboration with the Irish School of Ecumenics.
The consultation reflected on the various ways in which societies have come to terms with the problems related to the impact of large-scale atrocities that have had a massive impact on entire nations, or ethnic communities. Five five exemplary cases - Guatemala, South Africa, Germany, Cambodia, and (Northern) Ireland - were considered and participants analysed political contexts in which reconciliation processes were initiated, the role of enabling and disabling cultural contexts for the success of these processes and the role of Churches and faith communities in the preparation, accompaniment and monitoring of healing through remembering processes.
